-A A +A

Port Hope is a remarkably picturesque town located on the shore of Lake Ontario and in Northumberland County.

Port Hope has attracted widespread recognition for its historical architecture including being named "best-preserved Main Street in Ontario". Such architecture features over 300 designated heritage buildings, the highest number per capita in Canada. Port Hope's vibrant urban core is surrounded by spectacular rambling rural countryside with farmland, rural hamlets and the beautiful Ganaraska Forest.

Port Hope was recently named “Best Destination” in Reader’s Digest “Canada’s Most Interesting Town” contest.

The latest best-of list that Port Hope has made comes from travel writer and TV host Robin Esrock, who has declared Port Hope the Best Small Town in Ontario.  Among his reasons, Esrock listed the heritage main street, the Capitol Theatre and the annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny celebration that contribute to Port Hope's eclectic charm and character.

The municipal transit system offers easy accessibility for all and is easily accessible by the 401 and regular VIA rail service to the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
